Jefferson Elementary and Neill Library Celebrate Black History Month.

2nd graders artwork highlighting famous African- Americans.

Come see the children’s artwork

currently on display in

Neill Public Library

Pullman Washington

February 11 – 28.

Jefferson Elementary's Jenny Barnes and WSU's College of Education's Paul Mencke collaborated on a Black History unit focused on leaders such as Mary Bethune, Dr. Carter G. Woodson and Dr. Mae Jemison. The project was inspired by one of Dr. Mencke's current projects,  a children's picture book.  The alphabet style reader will highlight many African-Americans who have helped to mold the history of our nation.  I plan on learning more about the project and will keep you posted!

Here is a sneak peak at some of the students artwork:
Phyllis Wheatley

Mary Bethune

Dr. Mae Jemison
Dred Scott

Dr. Carter G. Woodson

Come celebrate the amazing artwork of our future leaders!!
